Bubba Watson Invents Real Golf Cart-Hovercraft

by JWhitley

American professional golfer Bubba Watson loves a day on the course, but was getting sick of having to follow all the rigid golf carting rules while on the green. And when a pond was in the way of the game, so much time was wasted scooting around the obstacles. Honing in on his American ingenuity, he imagined a golf cart-hovercraft hybrid. What he and Oakley ended up with was the BW1. Their golf hovercraft leaves no footprint on the green, and can go anywhere on the course, even over water.  As the debut of the video by Bubba’s Hover is so close to April Fool’s, viewers […]

NFL Player Blasts Abusive Fantasy Owners on Twitter After Bad Game

It’s no secret that aficionados of fantasy sports, the web-based contests that let fans digitally “own” players to compete in the accumulation of real-world statistics, sometimes take their virtual games a little too seriously. NFL running back DeAngelo Williams (at right) is sick of it — and he took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to let overenthusiastic fantasy fans know how he feels. Williams received a stream of Twitter abuse from disgruntled fantasy owners after he was held to just six yards on six carries as his Carolina Panthers fell to the Seattle Seahawks. Fans called him foul names and […]

Wait a minute, what’s Samwise Gamgee doing talking to a bunch of NFL rookies? Actually, that’s Rudy Ruettiger — or Sean Astin, the actor who played both the underdog Notre Dame football player immortalized in the 1993 film Rudy, as well as Frodo Baggins’ erstwhile sidekick. Astin is part of a Pepsi Max digital marketing campaign, in which he employs his football expertise (or lack thereof) to engage in some gridiron banter with the NFL’s latest crop of talent. The back-and-forth is good for a few chuckles, so check it out in the video above. Read more: http://mashable.com/2012/09/12/rudy-nfl-rookies/

How the World Series Was Won on Twitter

The San Francisco Giants’ 2012 World Series title is especially fitting for Mashable readers, as the team has consistently ranked among sports‘ best in social media as well. So great was the Giants’ social impact this year, in fact, that the team actually matched Barack Obama last week with a near-max Klout score of 99. The Giants just swept the Detroit Tigers in four games and, according to the infographic below, the battle in the Twittersphere was nearly as one-sided. Just over 700,000 tweets used the hashtags #WorldSeries, #SFGiants or #Tigers, with #SFGiants accounting for half of those. #Tigers was […]

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnXQsJ8ung8?enablejsapi=1&&w=640&h=360] Depending on how you interpret the game of basketball, the NBA has just released either the awesome-est or gross-est highlight reel to hit YouTube. The clip features Brian Scalabrine. Scalabrine, for the uninitiated, is a red-haired, pasty-faced journeyman center who spent eleven seasons warming the bench for three different teams. He was alternately loathed and loved by fans for his herky jerky moves, decided lack of hops and human-victory-cigar status before announcing his retirement from the NBA earlier this month. In a nod of respect to the man some know as the “White Mamba” (as opposed to Kobe […]
