Apple Has Approved 1 Million Apps for the App Store

As of Monday, Apple has now approved more than 1 million apps for the App Store, according to data from Appsfire, a mobile app discovery platform. Newspaper chain Gannett on Tuesday announced it was buying social media marketing firm Blinq Media to help position itself as a “leader in local and global social media marketing.” The acquisition gives Gannett access to Blinq’s 600 advertisers and to BAM 2.0, Blinq’s technology platform for social media campaign planning, set-up, management, optimization and metrics. Jack Dorsey’s Square is Now Valued at $3.25 Billion

Square, the mobile payments startup headed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, has closed a more than $200 million fundraising round that will value the company at $3.25 billion. The company had previously raised $100 million in 2011 valuing it at more than $1 billion, and was first revealed to be seeking another round of funding in late July. According to Square’s press release announcing the news, the investors who participated in the latest funding round included Citi Ventures, Rizvi Traverse Management and Starbucks.
